Uhadi

The uhadi bow is a chordophone percussion instrument from South Africa. When they see this instrument, many percussionists will immediately associate it with its more popular derivative, the berimbau of Brazil, but that is quite a different instrument with roots in Angola. 

The uhadi is played in South Africa, particularly among the Xhosa people, but very similar instruments are also played by the Zulu (where its known as umakhweyana or ugubhu), the Sotho (where it is known as thomo) and the Tsonga (where it is known as xitendze). 

The method of playing and the notes used vary depending on the player, but percussionist Luyolo Lenga gives a really solid outline of how this instrument is played below.
