Tambacounda is a large city in the east of Senegal. In the percussion story, the city played a very important role. The legendary Suncaru Jara taught there, with some pretty legendary pupils such as Abdoulaye Diakité. The concentration of djembe masters there at one time, meaning that gigs were more and more scarce, was a big impetus for many great players to spread out across the globe and bring that beautiful instrument to other parts of the world.
